As a seasoned film practitioner\, Nathalia now leads the BFI Film Academy for Resource Productions at Pinewood Studios and has curated and delivered several filmmaking masterclasses. She is the director of two short films\, Thaara (2016) and Lehenga (2018)\, the latter of which was nominated for the Best of British award at the BAFTA-qualifying Iris Prize Award in Cardiff. Footprints on Water is her feature film debut. It has already secured the Best Debut Film award at the 2022 New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) as well as the Best Director (Celebrating Our Stories theme) and Best Actor awards at the 2023 UK Asian Film Festival (UKAFF). “Being an immigrant myself\,” says Syam during an interview with Asian Culture Vulture\, “having watched Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… and all these films\, I thought it was going to be sports cars\, luxury houses\, but it wasn’t the case. Make him/herself available for Festival activities with other guests.\nGRAND PRIZE\nAll registered Challengers will have the opportunity to win the $500 Grand Prize.\nRUNNER-UP\nThe runner-up Challenger will receive a $250 Prize.\n\nJURY\nThe winning films will be selected by a jury of 2 to 3 members.\nThey will judge the films based on which one best incorporated the Challenge’s parameters\, as well as on script\, cinematography\, sound\, acting (if fiction)\, etc.\n\nSCREENINGS\nAll participating films will be screened locally\, in an Ottawa theatre during OIFFA. The Festival takes place from June 13 to 17\, 2023.\nAll Challengers will receive an all-access pass to OIFFA screenings\, depending on seating availability. All minors under 12 years of age need to be accompanied by a parent\, a legal guardian or a responsible adult. Smart dress or business casual for adults.\n\nSEQUENCE OF EVENTS\nSaturday\, May 13:\nRegistration opens online\nSaturday\, May 20:\nRegistration closes\nSunday\, May 21:\nPitch Night & Meet Up\nDoors* open at 3:30 PM. Pitch will take place at 4:30 PM. Competition officially starts at 5 PM.\nChallengers who are unable to attend in person will be notified of the details via email or text message at 4:30 PM.\nTuesday\, May 23:\n2 days into the Challenge\, Challengers will be notified of the Cultural Reference\, via email or text message.\nSunday\, June 4:\nChallenge ends at 5 PM and all participating films must be submitted to OIFFA\, or else be disqualified.\nTuesday\, June 13 to Saturday\, June 17:\nFestival dates | Challenge films will be screened at some point during this event.\nSaturday\, June 17:\nClosing Night Gala | Results of the Challenge will be announced.\nChallengers under 12 years of age present at the Gala need to be accompanied by a parent\, legal guardian or responsible adult.\n*Location of Pitch Night to be confirmed to the participants via email and on the website closer to May 21.\nYOUTH CHALLENGE document to be signed by Challenger’s parent or legal guardian >>>\nGENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS >>>
